Successful dairy farming is about producing milk at a cost-price that is below farm-gate price. Profitable dairy farming is about management and good management is based on a combination of relevant knowledge, reliable information and appropriate skills. The production process must be evaluated constantly, which commonly is done by using relevant production parameters (KPI’s).
A 2-day workshop on Modern Dairy Management (October 29 - 30, 2016) was conducted by Professor Gerardus Johannes Duives of HAS University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands and sponsored by the Government of Netherlands through its embassy in Islamabad in collaboration with Rausing Executive Development Centre (REDC). Mr. Duives is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from State University of Utrecht and an expert in curriculum development on animal health issues and farm management, both in the Netherlands and in foreign countries. The workshop was inaugurated by Dean Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), Dr. Jawad Syed and ECAM Programme Director, Dr. Fazal Jawwad who emphasised on the commitment of the Suleman Dawood School of Business towards its sectorial initiatives with the aim to impact the practice of management.
The workshop was well received by ECAM faculty and participants which focused on factors at farm level with potentially big impact on milk-production levels and quality. The main emphasis was creating awareness and formulating points of attention for cow management, fertility and reproduction management, young stock management, animal health management, influence of feed quality and quantity on milk production.
