Chemistry Faculty Publishes Collaborative Research in Nature Communications

Tuesday, October 25, 2016
Muhammad Zaheer, Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) has published his collaborative research work in ‘Nature Communications.’ He worked on this research titled, ‘Single-catalyst high-weight% hydrogen storage in an N-heterocycle synthesized from lignin hydrogenolysis products and ammonia’ with Daniel Forberg, Tobias Schwob, Martin Friedrich, Nobuyoshi Miyajima and Rhett Kempe.

The work reports a record hydrogen storage (7.2 weight %) in a renewable compound obtainable from biomass. This so called "hydrogen battery" concept allows on-demand addition as well as derivation of hydrogen from a lignin derived organic compound interestingly in the presence of a single and reusable catalyst.

Nature Communications is a reputable, open access journal that publishes high-quality research in biology, physics, chemistry, Earth sciences, and all related areas.
