Suleman Dawood School of Business – LUMS organized a one-day workshop to nurture the methodological and publishing abilities of operations and supply chain management researchers. The event was attended by leading supply chain management professionals, academics, and doctoral researchers. A panel of experts reviewed presentations about ongoing research work, provided feedback, and led an interactive session to answer queries about publishing and future directions for research.
The panel comprised:
- Prof. Dr. Stefan Seuring (Chair of Supply Chain Management University of Kassel, Germany – via Skype)
- Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Sadiq Jajja (Assistant Professor and EMBA Programme Director, SDSB-LUMS)
- Dr. Usman Khalid (Assistant Professor, SDSB-LUMS)
This workshop aimed to advance knowledge with respect to publications in operations management and supply chain management journals. The domain of operations and supply chain management heavily relies on scientific evaluation of business organisations and markets for effective decision making. Scientific publications help in theory development, progress of literary debates, identifying research gaps, proposing potential solutions for real world challenges and defining the future course of action for the researchers. Furthermore, the career development of faculty members is also dependent on the number and quality of their publications. This makes it crucial for researchers to be aware of state-of-the-art methods of scientific inquiry and publication techniques.
Assistant Professor Mr. Raja Rub Nawaz (Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi) remarked that this invaluable workshop helped understand what journal editors and reviewers look for, and how to ensure that submissions meet their standards. PhD Candidate Ms. Sadaf Aman (Information Technology University Lahore) added that the information gained through this workshop would help excel her career in academia by providing a solid understanding of the scientific publishing process.
The panel provided valuable inputs to help polish and develop advanced manuscripts and completed MPhil/PhD theses targeting sustainable supply chain management for publication in top tier supply chain management journals. Participants were presented souvenirs by SDSB-LUMS faculty members, and the session concluded over networking tea.
