With a rich cultural history, lively people and historical architecture, there is no city quite like Lahore. As the National Outreach Programme (NOP) outreach draws to a close, the NOP team wanted to focus on spreading the word of the scholarship programme in their own hometown and its surrounding cities. With the local population being well-versed with the academics at LUMS, many students were eager to know about and apply to the NOP.
Outreach was conducted in Gujranwala, the city known for being the centre of traditional wrestling where two colleges were visited and 253 students were presented to. Similarly, the resting place of the renowned Sufi poet, Bulleh Shah, the city of Kasur was travelled to where three colleges were approached and 250 students were reached. Additionally, five more colleges were visited and 242 students were reached in the agricultural city of Okara. Within the city of Lahore various colleges were visited including branches of the KIPS College, Superior College, PAF College and The Care Foundation.
With each presentation, students were informed about the NOP and guided through the process of applying to the NOP Summer Coaching Session. Students were ecstatic to discover that a university they had only dreamed about joining was now giving them the opportunity to turn their dreams to a reality with the NOP. The following Q&A sessions allowed students to express their interests and obtain insight into the NOP Online Application.
Programme Coordinator, DPS College Okara, Munir Ahmed praised the efforts of LUMS and the NOP in promoting Higher Education and for not overlooking the more rural cities of the country during Outreach. Principal Lt. Col. (R) Ahsan Rehman stated that LUMS felt like home and it would be an honour for students to obtain the NOP Scholarship in such a prestigious institution.
