An article by Imtiaz ul Haq, Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Banking & Finance. Titled “It’s all in the name: Mutual Fund Name Changes after SEC Rule 35d-1”, it is co-authored by Susanne Espenlaub and Arif Khurshed of the University of Manchester. The article studies “how investors respond to ‘superficial’ mutual-fund name changes that occur for no fundamental reasons. [It finds] that such name changes remain widespread even after regulation to curb potentially misleading name changes (SEC Rule 35d-1).”
