About the talk
Consumer Protection Laws serve as safeguards against corporate greed and are often the only mechanisms to ensure the protection of consumer interests. Consumers, specifically un sophisticate consumers, are often the victim of such corporate abuses and desperately need the help of regulators and law enforcement agencies. Consumer Protection Laws in developed countries range from laws: regulating abusive debt collection practices; mandating specific disclosure during consumer lending and consumer sales transactions; regulating false advertising, and regulating many types of deceptive practices in consumer transactions. Despite these laws countries like the U.S. are at times unable to protect their consumers and frequently face the daunting challenge of keeping up with the perpetually changing dynamics of consumer markets. However, Pakistan like many other countries can benefit from the failure and successes of these models and templates to ensure that its economic development does not come at the expense of consumer rights.
