The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean at the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS). LUMS is Pakistan’s premier private university, founded in 1986, renowned for the quality and impact of its graduates. Its 100 acre campus in suburban Lahore, Pakistan’s cultural capital, provides world-class educational and residential facilities.
MGSHSS comprises the departments of Economics and Humanities and Social Sciences which enjoy a strong reputation for academic excellence. Focusing on a multidisciplinary approach and a breadth of courses, MGSHSS imparts a high quality liberal arts foundation to all students at LUMS.
As the administrative head, the Dean will be responsible for the School’s academic affairs and its strategic vision, and for developing partnerships with local and international academic organisations, civil society groups, and policy think tanks. As part of the University’s senior leadership, the Dean will work closely with other senior officers to realise the vision of the School and University.

In particular, the successful candidate will have an outstanding record of scholarship and academic leadership, a broad awareness of conditions shaping higher education, exceptional interpersonal skills, and strong networking ability. He or she will have demonstrable success in recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty while guiding them towards a standard of excellence in research and teaching.
This appointment is for an initial three year term beginning January 1, 2017 or on a mutually agreeable date and carries with it an attractive compensation and benefits package. A concurrent faculty appointment, either term or permanent, will provide a base for continuing active personal scholarship. Internationally recognised scholars with a strong research background are especially encouraged to apply.
