Thursday, April 6, 2017
One of the most cherished events at LUMS, the LUMS Olympiad, is a joint collaborative event between the LUMS Media Arts Society (LMA) and Debates and Recitation at LUMS (DRUMS). Olympiad 2017 was attended by delegates from all over Pakistan. It was exhilarating to see students from Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar to compete for the title of this year’s Olympiad winner.

This year the youngest delegates were 12 year olds, yet they competed with confidence against older 20 year olds, and surprisingly bagged a few awards for themselves also! The event lasted for a total of 4 days, where almost each day a social event was planned to relieve the delegates after a long, taxing day of competitions. The incredible vocal prowess of popular Qawal, Santu’s expressions combined to create an exuberating Qawali experience.

Olympiad 2017 also included workshops by famous artists and entrepreneurs. Saifullah Minhas talked about his start-up ‘Maro Tandoors’ and provided important insights to aspiring entrepreneurs for their future endeavours. He held the audience quite attentive as he spoke about ‘never letting the fear of failure paralyse your creative abilities.’

Another workshop featured fashion designer, Munib Nawaz, where delegates and students of LUMS sat together to listen to his struggles and achievements. This year, Sara Naveed, author of international bestseller, Undying Affinity, shared her journey of success, providing amateur book writers the inspiration to pursue their dreams.

The amazing performance by popular music band, Zauq left the participants spellbound. Another notable performance was by Cecos, Peshawar during the dramatics event, which was highly appreciated by the audience.
