In line with its efforts to reach out to a global audience, LUMS flagship event, the Webcast Open Day, on Friday, October 20, 2017, attracted a wide spectrum of national and international audience. The senior leadership of LUMS, Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, the Deans of Schools and LUMS Executive MBA 2014 graduate, Umer Ghumman, together, represented the University at this online engagement forum.
The Webcast started with the representatives of all five Schools providing an overview of all programmes offered at their schools. Dr. Naqvi addressed the youth and shared the highlights and strengths of LUMS and invited them to become a part of an unparalleled educational and life experience. Moderated by LUMS faculty member, Dr. Suleman Shahid, the School introductions led to a Q&A session where the online audience actively connected with the panel through the LUMS Facebook page.
The overwhelming number of questions posted through the University's official Facebook page, were answered by Dr. Naqvi; Dr. Jawad Syed, Dean of Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB); Dr. Kamran Asdar Ali, Dean of Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS); Dr. Shahid Masud, Dean of Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE); Dr. Martin Wilhelm Lau, Dean of Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL); Dr. Mariam Chughtai, Associate Director, School of Education (SOE) and Mr. Umer Ghumman. This served to be a thoroughly engaging dialogue.
Addressing the audience, Prof. Naqvi said that LUMS represents the concept of no boundaries. “When you enter the university you do not know what course you have a passion for. You do not know if anthropology or economics or biology excites you. LUMS offers a multidisciplinary approach; this open playing field helps you discover who you are. LUMS helps to ignite the passion that resides inside you. We believe in your talent and provide you opportunities. LUMS is an environment which is intense, exhilarating and life changing experience for you,” he said.
Mr. Ghumman, who is Head, Mobile Phone Division Samsung Electronics Pakistan Limited said that the skills acquired at LUMS are greatly valued in the job market. He said that having worked with graduates from top international universities at Tetrapak and Samsung, he felt that his education at LUMS put him at par with them.
“You have two advantages when you graduate from LUMS, firstly you are recognised as a brand; once you are associated with a brand such as LUMS, people assume you know everything. Secondly, you do know everything. You are able to express your point of view, your power of expression increases with LUMS and brings a lot of depth in your analysis,” elaborated Mr. Ghumman.
