The first in a series of LUMS Open Days 2017, was held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Serena Hotel in Islamabad. Aimed at raising awareness about the various academic programmes at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), the Islamabad Open Day 2017 introduced prospective students and their parents to the unparalleled educational and co-curricular opportunities that exist at the University. Prospective students, their parents and teachers got a chance to meet the many people who can help them to make the right decision for their future.
The information sessions provided an excellent opportunity for guests to find out about the degrees offered at LUMS, the admission application process and financial aid options available at the University. Admissions Office, Financial Aid Office and Marketing team representatives were on hand to answer visitors’ queries at the day-long event. The guests networked with LUMS faculty, staff and alumni who introduced them to academic and extra-curricular life at the University.
While addressing the audience at a session, Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Yasser Hashmi said, "LUMS provides a distinctive intellectual and educational environment. The hallmark of a LUMS student is spirit, intellect and passion to reach his goal.”
The sessions for the graduate and post-graduate programmes at LUMS were scheduled during the first half of the day, while the LUMS undergraduate programmes, the Executive MBA (EMBA) programme and MPhil in Education Leadership and Management programme at School of Education sessions were scheduled in the second half. Notable alumni for each programme were engaged to share their experiences about life at LUMS and how a LUMS degree helped shape their careers. Prominent alumni included Umair Javed, Directot, Completion Commission of Pakistan; Taimur Saeed, CEO, Development Hub Pakistan; Tooba Akthar, Senior Manager Fellow and Alumni Leadership Development at Teach for Pakistan and Muhammad Amir, Edifying Kudos Training and Development Organisation, among others.
Each programme presentation concluded with a question and answer session during which the audience had the opportunity to ask for more details. Guests expressed satisfaction at the information given by the LUMS team and were especially pleased at receiving detailed admissions related information. "I wanted to know what chances does an average student have of getting into the MBA programme and the answer from Dean Dr. Jawad Syed was very encouraging; he said that one has to try and a lot depends on the interview," said Zeeshan Sarwar, a participant at the event.
Another participant Ehsan Mushtaq commented, "We already know that LUMS is a great University. Today, at the Open Day briefing, I found out in greater detail about the opportunties LUMS offers, what type of university life one can experinec and what makes the education at LUMS a very well-rounded one. I'm totally excited and will try my best to get admitted to LUMS."
The second Open Day 2017 Karachi will be held tomorrow, Sunday, October 22 at Movenpick Hotel, Karachi between 11:30 am and 4:00 pm while the concluding event, Open Day 2017 Lahore is scheduled from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm for November 5, 2017 at the LUMS campus.
