Lahore University of Management Sciences officially commenced its National Outreach Programme (NOP) on July 18, 2016. Approximately 600 shortlisted applicants from across the countryassembled in the university’s academic block, where they were formally inducted through a streamlined process and briefed about the activities planned to provide them a well-rounded campus experience.
The 15 day coaching session, which will end on August 1, 2016 will rigorously train students to take the SAT 1 and 2 tests. These sessions facilitate lodging and dining facilities for over 80% students. The students will get to know firsthand what LUMS has to offer through faculty interactions, tutorials, presentation skills, and critical thinking sessions. These sessions also feature a whole host of extra-curricular activities such as sports day, music and drama night. The purpose behind these sessions is to not only equip these brilliant students for the upcoming test but also instill a sense of purpose, competitiveness and comradery among them.
Based on these lab sessions, interviews and assessment tests, a large proportion of those attending will be invited to appear in the LUMS admission test next year. These students have been invited from all over Pakistan, including Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Loralai, Zhob, Turbat, Rakhni, Pishin, Gilgit, Swabi, Charsadda, Mardan, Mathelo, Karachi, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Hasilpur and Bhakkar.
Prof. Dr. S. Sohail. H. Naqvi, Vice Chancellor, LUMS welcomed the students attending the NOP Coaching Sessions 2016 and delivered a motivational speech. He discussed the core values of LUMS and what the institution has to offer. “LUMS is not interested in the ordinary, we aim for excellence. This is what we aim to instill in our students and this is why you are all here”, said Dr. Naqvi.
The NOP was launched in 2001, to extend the benefits of world-class education to talented students all over Pakistan. This prestigious scholarship programme focuses on identifying bright students with exceptional Matriculation and FA/FSc results and inducting them into the LUMS Undergraduate Programmes. To date 798 students from across the nation have benefited from this programme.
Lahore University of Management Sciences’ vision behind this programme is to brighten up these students’ career prospects and put them on track for securing a better future for themselves and their families.
