On May 21, 2017, the Lahore University of Management Sciences hosted a one day hands-on “Biosafety Cabinet Workshop” organised by Pakistan Biological Safety Association (PBSA).
The event was co-collaborated with XBIOS, Belgium and Fogarty International Centre (FIC), National Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS), US. Thirty-eight participants from various universities and research institutes from Punjab attended the workshop.
The talks on biosafety were given by Dr. Ali Ahmad Sheikh, General Secretary, PBSA; Dr. Zeba Rasmussen, Senior Research fellow, FIC, NIHS, US; Dr. Shaper Mirza, Associate Professor, Department of Biology, LUMS and Dr. Philippe Stroot Bio-safety Consultant XBIOS, Belgium.
Dr. Ahmad Sheikh and Dr. Stroot covered different topics. These included Biological Safety Cabinets (BSC); which includes BSC principles and choosing, installing and maintaining a BSC.
Additionally, Mr. Furqan Kabir and Dr. Javed Muhammad elaborated on how to properly and safely use BSC.
