Hina Jilani Stresses on Advocating Human Rights at the Khalid Ishaque Annual Distinguished Lecture

Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL) organised the Khalid Ishaque Annual Distinguished Lecture on Thursday, April 25, 2019. This year’s speaker was an esteemed member of the legal fraternity of Pakistan and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Ms. Hina Jilani who spoke on “Human Rights: A Pathway to Democracy, Justice and Social Progress”.

The event started with an address by the Acting Dean SAHSOL, Dr. Kamran Asdar Ali, who highlighted the evolution of the Khalid Ishaque Annual Distinguished Lectures at SAHSOL and commended the services of Mr. Khalid Ishaque, one of which were the donation of his entire library to the Law School. He introduced Ms. Jilani and shed light upon her unprecedented services in the promotion as well as advocacy for Human Rights in Pakistan. He was followed by Dr. Parvez Hassan, who also spoke about Ms. Jilani’s commendable services on Human Rights issues. The lecture was well attended not just by students but people from all walks of life especially Lawyers, Judges of the Superior Courts as well as different NGO’s representatives.

Ms. Jilani, spoke about her journey of Human Rights advocacy and discussed in the detail the grave violations of human rights in the country. She presented the ‘State of Human Rights in 2018’ a report published by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and discussed in detail the matters published in the report, in particular about the treatment and fate of minorities in Pakistan. In the end the floor was opened for questions.
