EE and AdCom PhD Student Receives Young Development Leadership Award 2016

Faran Awais Butt, a LUMS PhD student under the mentorship of Dr. Ijaz Haider Naqvi has received the Young Development Leadership Award on August 11, 2016. He received the award in a glamorous event held at the Pak-China Friendship Centre in a ceremony celebrating the 2nd anniversary of Pakistan Vision 2025 conducted by Ministry of Planning, Division and Reforms. Faran was nominated for this award for his outstanding research performance in 2015 which includes a US Patent award on advanced EW Radar Technology. Most of his publications were based on his MS thesis at LUMS.

“It is an honour for me to get the award, and be a part of the Vision 2025” says Faran. “I owe my achievement to LUMS, which is a place which gives immense importance to R&D and provides all related resources and facilities”, he added. 

Faran Awais Butt came to LUMS to study engineering and later developed his thesis on the subject of Electric Counter-Countermeasure. Faran has secured a US Patent for his research related to his thesis. He is the first Pakistani to secure a US Patent in electronic Warfare.

The Young Development Leader Award is bestowed to outstanding Pakistani development leaders, who have demonstrated exemplary performance with high impact in the fields critical for realisation of the Vision 2025 goals.
