Dr. Faqir Bhatti from the Centre for Advanced Studies in Mathematics (CASM) at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) at LUMS has been elected President of the Punjab Mathematical Society in a recent election last week, for a period of two years.
The Punjab Mathematical Society was founded in February 1976. The main aims and objectives of the society are to promote advanced studies and research in Mathematical Sciences and help to develop curriculum of Mathematics at all levels according to the needs of modern era. Another aim of the society is to suggest ways and means for the improvement of the teaching of mathematical sciences at all levels. The society also provides a forum to its members and researchers to collaborate for the advancement of knowledge and also organise workshops/conferences to promote mathematics.
Dr. Faqir Bhatti remained Chairman of the Brunei Darussalam Mathematical Society for two years before and he is also a member of the London Mathematical Society since 1993 and also the European Mathematical Society.
