Barrister Momin Malik conducted an interactive session with BA-LL.B students on, “Prospects and Opportunities for Lawyers" in the first ten years of their career on Tuesday, November 13 at Academic Block, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). He started the session by giving a brief introduction of himself; he obtained his early education from Aitchison College, Lahore and Bar-at-law from the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. He has been teaching and practicing LAW since 2012. He is also running his own independent law firm with the name of M- Legal and has successfully argued many criminal appeals. He is also the legal advisor to various private schools, corporate entities, housing societies etc.
He stated that individuals need to have balance in their personality and they would be required to pick on different personality traits in different situations. Survival in the job market is very difficult due to competitiveness; they need to come out of their comfort zone to be successful in their careers.
He explained that lawyers need to build bridges with everyone they meet; peer-to-peer interaction is very crucial to succeed in legal system. Law journals are very good to read for academic purpose as well as when you are practicing.
The reason behind discussing aforementioned was to give an understanding to students about the significance of personal branding and developing their niche. In this extremely dynamic world, students must create their own value, which will be derived from much bigger purpose not the commodity.
In the end, he advised the students how to prepare for interviews, how they can do different research about the company and position, find out the cases of company and read about their judgments. He also told them to read the newspapers about the company and its culture as, “the more you know, the better it is.”
